Today Steph, Annelie, and I went into Frieds for the afternoon to hang out and do a little shopping. On the bus on the way there, some grade school students heard us speaking in English and, not realizing Annelie spoke German, were talking about us. Annelie scared them when she started answering them in German, and while I didn't catch most of the conversation, it was clear that they were a little bit embarrassed about what they'd been saying=P

It's been really interesting to me how idolized America and Americans really are over here. Of course there is that bitterness that a lot of people expect, but there's also a sort of awe factor that makes every American automatically stand out as special and cool. These kids on the bus all crowded around us and asked us question after question about where we were from and what we'd seen...even shopping in the stores, you'll find the American flag incorporated into clothing similarly to how the British flag can be found on a lot of American clothing, only it's more prominent here.

After shopping for a little while, we decided to have dinner at a local shop that sells doners. I had never heard of a doner before this trip, but basically you've got a hot rotating pole covered in meat, and they shave off the meat and put it into a flat bread burrito type thing with some lettuce, onions, and sauce and you've got yourself basically the best thing you've ever eaten in your life! Terrible for you, but definitely worth it. While there, Christina (a German girl who is here with her husband Benjamin. They just got married a couple months ago) just happened to see us and offered to drive us home.

On the way home in her car, we passed two prostitution houses, which was sad and surprising for me, coming from a place where prostitution is legal. But the sunset was absolutely gorgeous. Just a reminder that even though there really are awful things going on, God is here and in control. Each sunset is a reminder of his power and beauty.

To top off an already great day, we finished with a video depicting the majesty of space.
